I believe the most productive work I do is the work I do in the face of adversity.
Resilience and discipline are required to push forward when your chips are down, and the odds are stacked against you. It isn’t everybody’s preference, but I have learned the rewards from success in the face of adversity, far outweigh the feeling of winning with momentum behind you. When I have to fight to win and I have to do things I am afraid to do, my faith is reassured and my belief in myself is established. It is both a faith builder and a personal victory.
Many people believe that you have to go through extremely painful periods of life or extreme oppression, in order to build toughness and resilience. The truth is that we need to do things that challenge us. We must challenge our minds, bodies, and spirits – to the point that we dig deep within ourselves and also step outside of ourselves. When our comfort is lost and our identity is challenged, discipline and courage will carry us through.
Without fail, life will challenge us all. Some of these challenging seasons may break us, but we can always make the choice to push forward, press on, and rebuild. Press into the future, and embrace the storm.
Have a great week,
Neal
