Am I special?
Yes and no.
I have a program of recovery that reminds me that I don’t get to play by special rules regarding my alcoholism. Alcoholism works the way it works, and I have it. When I start asking for special conditions and circumstances, that is exactly how my alcoholism begins to manifest itself.
It is important to learn from the many others who came before me, who suffer from the same condition. My situation may feel bigger than anyone else’s, but that’s just because it is my own. What works for so many others, will quite likely work for me.
There is, however, one condition. I was created and given life by God, who has a very specific plan for me and my life. It is unlike any other, and because of this fact, I have been given a unique set of gifts to fulfill that plan for my life. I don’t get to break the rules without consequence but my path will be different than many.
The best part about this: the same applies to you and your life. There is a calling and a destiny uniquely made for you. Go get it.
Have a great week!
Neal
