Ten years ago, I was living on the street at the height of my addiction to drugs and alcohol. I didn’t have any friends and my family didn’t allow me to come around the house very often. I was heavily addicted to methamphetamine, and I was wanted on felony warrants while also being homeless. I hated my life and I wanted to die. I didn’t believe in God, but I had run out of options. I called out to God, asking him to do something if He truly existed (this was out loud in a parking lot and toward the clouds - I was high but I meant it lol). Hours after I prayed, my life changed as I was arrested that same night. It was the beginning of the rest of my life.
On that day, I felt myself die inside. I gave up and gave into something different. I didn’t even know what it all would look like but I was committed to it 100%. I wanted something different and now I knew there was something out there, much bigger than me. I accepted the fact that I was wrong and I was ready to get busy learning how to do it the right way. Without the death of those old, toxic beliefs and behaviors, the man I am today would not have been born.
Thanks to recovery and to God, my life is completely different now. It does not matter how many wounds you have or how deep they are, healing is available to all. Miracles happen every day and I am one of them. If you want to change yourself, then you must let yourself be changed. I share these suggestions out of gratitude for the life I live today. I want others to have the same.
Don’t give up. The sun will rise.
Have a great week!
Neal
