I cannot overstate the importance of being in a healthy community.
In the early stages of my life, right after I quit drinking and doing drugs, it was crucial for me to say yes to everything. I had spent a lot of time in isolation and had neglected many areas of my life. I needed to get out and engage with other people. Because I was surrounded by healthy people, I was able to try new things while remaining confident that I would not get myself into trouble.
In my life today, my friends and I reach out to one another when life gets difficult. I need those people to be grounded, healthy, and to have God at the center of their lives. If we reach out to one of our friends in search of marriage or career advice, we don’t want to hear someone telling us to quit or get divorced. We want good direction from someone who cares about the outcomes of our decisions.
Get good people around you, so you can have the confidence to give life a chance to be fun. Invest in healthy relationships, so that you will be confident in your direction on the days you cannot steer the ship.
Have a great week,
Neal
