As someone who turned my life around at age twenty-seven, I have a deep appreciation for how important it can be for some seasons to end and new ones to begin. These are a few things I’ve learned about creating lasting change in my life if I want that change to be genuine and effective.
Plan for success.
I cannot expect any kind of success if I haven’t established a solid plan of action. What are the steps required to make this happen? What is the first step, and what do I need to begin? When can I start? Don’t be casual about your future—build a plan and get serious about the work.
Commit to the plan.
I cannot reach my full potential if I’m constantly looking in the rearview mirror or stopping for people who refuse to hold themselves accountable. The sacrifice of success is often how isolating it can feel to stay consistent. Workout partners flake out, and friends will choose partying over quiet nights at home.
Be positive—there’s no room for a losing attitude.
I cannot carry my old perspective into my new journey. Any negative self-talk and self-doubt has to be left behind. Clinical depression is a reality for me, but I have the self-will and self-control to manage my habits. I write new affirmations for each season of life and read them aloud to myself daily. How I talk to myself and who I surround myself with are critically important.
Plan for success, commit to the plan, and maintain a positive attitude about the future.
Happy New Year, friends.
Thank you, God. 🙏🏼
