One of the simplest and most valuable lessons I learned in early recovery was that I don’t have to do anything—I get to.
I am fortunate to have a life to live. For me to adopt the attitude that I am obligated to work, help others, and take care of my responsibilities is such a poor mindset to have. Instead, I should be grateful for the job I have and for the physical ability to work. I am thankful to have the money to pay my bills.
I get to go to work today. I am fortunate to have a family, and today I get to be there for them. I hope I also get the opportunity to help some people today. No matter what happens, I am grateful that I get to find out what it will be.
Have a great week!
Neal
